A Gaggle of Memes

I haven't been drawing anything lately but freelance gig stuff. Nothing drawn just for fun for myself. And it's grating on me. So I remembered a meme from waaaaaay back (on Lesnick's lj, I think).

Just post any suggestion for something for me to quicksketch. The weirder the better.

And a couple other memes before I forget.
==I support all who love==
Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage/relationship (or if you think you might be someday), and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

==Picture Meme yanked from Glych==
1) Think of the first word that comes to mind when you think of me.

2) Go to Google Images and search for that word.

3) Reply to this post with one of the pictures on the first page of results (don't tell me the word).

4) Put this in your own journal so that I can do the same.

Really wish I had somethin' going on in my life that was interesting enough to warrent a real lj post.

Stolen from Glych

Stolen from everyone:

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you!

I got a somewhat regular gig as the artist on a new print comic. Not much money, not much recognition, and not too interesting, but it'll cover rent and pad my resume.

Aaaaaand a meme for the hell of it.

Rules of the game:

- Choose a singer/band/group
- Answer using ONLY titles of songs by that singer/band/group

My singer: Jonathan Coulton

01.
Seattle

Hey, long time no post. First it was because I had nothing much happening, then I moved up to Seattle on April Fool's Day and just been too busy to post anything.

Basically, I was sick of L.A. and my lack of a social life or growing career, so I moved up to Seattle. Beautiful scenery, Higher concentration of freaks/geeks/artists/my-kind-of-folks, and a a self imposed kick in the pants to become a full-time freelance illustrator/cartoonist.

I've been hanging out with my best friend Arlo. My third day here I entered, and won an Air Guitar championship, and through that got an ongoing gig drawing "Kinkatures" at burlesque shows. Other than that, just tryin' to pimp myself out on illustrator listing sites and calling around to drum up some caricature party gigs.

These are the samples I came up with to advertise at the burlesque shows:

overdue meme

Make a comment in this entry. I'll go to your profile, pick 3 userpics and interests, and then you explain them in your journal. Include this text or not.

This is what Arch chose for me:

Offbeat role playing games: I honestly can't remember what I ment when I added this. I think I was refering to the non-D&D tabletop Aaaarpeegees that I was enjoying with my pals in Minnesota like Changeling (where you play as a reincarnated fairy tale character of your own design in the modern world: I was a classic hedonistic pirate) or the psyonics-in-the-future-one-I-can't-remember-the-name-to-but-I-think-begins-with-"A" (where I was an electronics-empath stuntman/rockstar named Axe Bastard). Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure it wasn't me saying how much a fan of kinky bedroom theatrics I am like acting out an R rated "Little Red Riding Hood". Although I do have the required chest rug to play the wolf part.

The Future!: Who doesn't love The Future! (always spelled with an exclamation point, like "Science!") All the possibilities, all the promise, all the hot Jetsons-girls in thier plastic mini-skirts... Anyway, on that note, let me say how conficted I am on my feelings on the revamping done on Tomorrowland a while back. On an asthetic level, I love it. I love my retro-future with fins and art-deco-ness. On the other hand, I hate the principal behind it. Tomorrowland was supposed to be tbe constantly updating optimistic vision of the future. But how they did the redesign, they've given up on looking forward and just take a nostalgic look back on how we used to anticipate the world of tomorrow. It's so damned defeatistic and depressing an attitude.

Spacegirls: Bubble helmets...form-fitting spandex...classic pin-up...Oh Yeah....

Flying Squid Army: From the pages of Mark Trail. Someday, somehow, I'm going to feature a flying squid army of death in one of my comics. There is no avoiding making the "Oh S**T" face when you've got hundreds of phalic-lookin' six-armed creatures launching themselves through the air at you. Death From Above, Baby!

Love You Madly: From the pages of Peanuts (specifically, the "Unseen Peanuts" free comic book day special). The dialoge, if you can't read it in it's smallitude, is boy-"Don't you love me anymore, Patty?" Patty-"How's your comic-book collection coming?" boy-"I bought four more yesterday...." Patty-"I love you madly." Just goes to show that if you want any affection, you've gotta bring somethin' to the table, be it stunning good looks, impressive talent, or material wealth.

Sad, Sad Taco Bell Dog: From the pages of Brenda Starr, Ace Reporter/Detective/Reporter again. Seriously, you should be reading this comic in case a storyline comes along again like this one. It's got everything: prison culinary conspiracies, a celebrity chef smuggling drugs inside smuggled chihuahuas and cooking the unsold canines to feed to his restaurant patrons, a bondaged red-head spitting an apple square into the villian's crotch, Rip Taylor sporting an emo comb-over... Well, I figured I needed a "I'm Sad *weep* *weep*" icon for my lj repotoire, and the villian here looked pretty much like how I looked at the time what with the chubby face and the tiny goatee. But it's the chihuahua licking the tear that really makes this picture. Them tiny shaved bastards love the taste of our dispair. "Yo Quiero Your Pain, Human"

TeagueArt.com? TheRealTeague.com? Teagueapalooza.com???

I need to come up with a new domain name since I lost teaguetysseling.com to one of those damn URL resellers just because I forgot to renew it for a month. I've tried getting it back but they want just too damn much money for it.

So, any suggestions for a name for my portfolio site?

Happy Birthday to me

I'd planned on celebrating by going to play Mini-Golf and then hitting a strip club (You know, keeping things balanced), but everyone I wanted to hang out with had work and stuff.

So I just ended up going to California Adventure to check out the "Screamin'" roller coaster and then came home to veg out.

Did get around to scanning some pages from my sketchbook though.

All characters from the "Zachary Nixon Johnson: Last Freelance PI of the Future" books (who here can name them all?)

So I've still got enough of my cold left to make me coughy and uncomfortable.

On the way to work, my car kaput-ed and I had to get it towed to a garage.

The guy from the garage was nice enough to give me a ride to work....that lasted forever because of construction.

AND HERE'S THE IRONY, we were about ten blocks from getting there when The Mechanic's Car BROKE DOWN.

So all in all I got to work about two and a half hours late, just to find that the Jazz Kitchen (one of the DTD restaurants) has make their wireless internet password protected, cutting me off from all internet goodness while at work.

Took too buses to get home (having to run to catch both of them) by around 1:00 am.

...But at least my comic is updating again.

So how was your Friday the Thirteenth?

So I was working on my comic at about 1'O clock in the morning, trying to figure out HOW IN THE HELL did I trick myself into doing MAD About U. in full color.

I mean, I started out just black and white brushpen drawings. They'd be quick and easy to keep a 3 day a week schedual. Then my first hiatus hit, not from business in real life or some emergency or even a vacation, but because I had a whole storyline drawn, ready to letter, and decided, in my editorial arrogance that "it just wasn't worth posting. It didn't bring anything to the story or characters (other than about a two friggin' month buffer)".

Then after coming back, I had been smitten with the two tone visuals of Vera Brosgol's comic, Return To Sender and decided to try the same thing, but with prismacolor markers for texture. I kept adding more and more tints.

The 3D story came and it'd have been just too much of a bitch to do the effects over marker colored backgrounds, so once the multi-dimentional beings came in, I started coloring on just the computer.

The final slip was coloring on the computer with all those purples and little other tinted colors like peach or brown skin, or red for Francis' shirt and I thought "Y'know, why don't I do this with other base color palletes for different lighting/effects/moods for each scene/setting?" BECAUSE IT'D TAKE TOO DAMN LONG is what I should have said. Sigh.

Oh well, at least they're looking nice.

I was going to wait until Thursday to pick up the Little Mermaid: SP when I went in to work....but I'm weak willed.

I was also going to only get the Little Mermaid.....but they had the horror classics THEM, House of Wax with Vincient Price, and a Villiage of the Damned/Children of the Damned double pack for five bucks each...and I'm weak willed.

P.S. Ariel swooning over Sabastian in the Little Mermaid 3 preview creeped me out a lot more than it should have.

P.P.S. I just found a neat-o Easter Egg on the bonus features dvd on Little Mermaid. On the "Treasures Untold" menu on the left side in the clouds you can highlight a dinglehopper and click it to view a video of Musker and Clemens drawing caricatures of each other.

6 Things About The Teague

Ok, got tagged by eyo.

**1**My name is celtic and means "poet", but my folks just picked it out of a baby name book. My actual heritage is German and some Germans who bought a windmill and decided to be dutch for a while.

**2**When I was a little kid, I either wanted to be a cartoonist or a mechanical engineer. Whenever Valentine's day rolled around in elementary school I would make some complicated chutes/levers/rubber-band-spring-loaded contraption for my paper valentines mail box for my desk.

**3**I've got my own Ukulele and have taught myself a few songs like "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", "California Girls", and the theme song to Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers. Honestly though, I originally thought about getting a regualar guitar, but figured I wasn't a sexy enough person to be a guitarist. I also tried to learn accordion, but that thing's just too damn complicated.

**4**I'm a total flake when it comes to collaboration projects. Just ask troutman, catharsis_, or prankster36.

**5**I've been around smokers my whole life. First my father, then my roomate in San Francisco, My best friend in Ukiah, and a temporary roomie/leech in Minneapolis. Now I smoke. Can you get addicted from second hand?

**6**The best years of my life so far were living in San Francisco and hanging out at the Isotope. I had my first drink of booze there. One day I was just walking into the store as usual and Larry Young shoved a scotch glass into my hand and said "Teague, drink this!" I downed it before asking what it was. Later on Larry apologized saying he didn't know it was my first drink and he was sorry that he had now spoiled me for other scotches. It was good stuff, but I still enjoy plenty other scotch now.

Ok, now I tag:
petie_s
archangela_az
troutman
styletax
catharsis_
and gastave

(crazykiltman, you did the meme already, right?)

Semi-Productive Day Today

Redid my portfolio website to be more professional-ish.

Got my stuff all together and ready for the party gig tomorrow.

Applied to get added to the-nose.com to get more party jobs.

and finally figured out how I want the climax of the next MAD U. storyline to end so all I have left is to actually draw the 10 weeks I got scripted as a buffer before I begin updating again.

Three Measly Comics!

Just three comics left to write and then I'll have over two months scripted panel by panel to draw and upload as a kickass buffer to start updating again.
